Red Table Grapes

$8.00

Grape vine producing bunches of red table grapes in late summer. This is an unknown variety but is an older style grape with great flavour that has been likened to the NZ bred ‘Albany Surprise’. It is not seedless.

Grapes are great for growing along fence lines or over pergolas to provide shade during the hot summer months.

Growing Grapes

The best location for grapevines is where they receive full sun with good air circulation. They will need some protection against strong winds & generally some support in the form of a trellis, pergola or other structure.

They like a good deep soil that drains well & don’t mind if it is a bit sandy/rocky.

Fruit will generally be ready to eat in mid-late summer.

Using Grapes

Great in a Mediterranean guild with the likes of Figs, Rosemary & Lavender, they can be grown up large, established trees but so have a tendency to take over if left unmaintained or allowed to escape into the wild. They can also be trained into a standard tree shape – see this post for instructions.

Usually eaten fresh, they can also be juiced or frozen as an alternative to ice cubes for summer drinks.
