Growing & Using Red Dogwood
Best stem colour is achieved in full sun but will tolerate some shade. Prefers moist soils over dry but is happy in a variety of soil types.
Coppice in winter to get the best new growth for weaving. Check out this post for how to put together a great looking wreath from the growth or get really adventurous and learn how to weave a basket!
Uses
Said to be a mineral accumulator (Calcium, Phosphorus & Potassium), the leaves should be left on the ground as a mulch when they drop in winter.
We are utilising this plant as a fairly fast growing space filler that helps to protect slower growing crop trees from wind, weeds and too much sun.
