Citrus Rootstock – Trifoliata – Seedlings

$10.00

If you ever wanted to try grafting citrus, this is your chance!

I have an oversupply of Trifoliata seedlings that are coming up to 1 year old. This is the variety of citrus that has been used for many years as a rootstock for all our other citrus. They are currently in their dormant phase (Trifoliata is deciduous) and will likely loose their leaves briefly before growing again in spring.

They are currently 5-10cm in size and may be ready for summer grafting but will possibly need another year of growth depending on your confidence with grafting.

Out of stock

Trifoliata (Trifoliate Orange or Hardy Orange) is a deciduous member of the citrus family and is generally more cold tolerant than most citrus species. It is recognisable by its three leaflets and long thorns and can often be seen growing from the base of other citrus plants that have been grafted to it.

Its hardiness and resistence to pests and disease make it an obvious choice as a rootstock.

Grown without grafting it will form a shrub up to 6m tall, flowering in spring with fruit ripening in autumn. The fruit is small, full of seeds and very sour.

For more information on how to graft citrus, this site has some instructional videos.
